In one of the villages in Poltava region, among the unique Ukrainian nature, one-storey house with four wooden columns is located. Here in the former Vasylivka (now Hoholeve village, Shyshatskyi district, Poltava region), Nikolay Vasylyovych Hohol a classic of the world literature lived. In this picturesque corner he spent his childhood and tender years. On April 1, 1984, the Museum Reserve saw the first visitors. Nowadays the National museum reserve named after Mykola Hohol is a pearl of a tourist and recreational cluster of “Hohol’s places in Poltava region”. The paternal house, the side wing, the yard and ponds, the garden park with small architectural forms enchant visitors with its unique beauty, preserve the home comfort and spirit of Hohol`s family. In the halls of the paternal house and the auxiliary building there is an exposition that gives an idea of the era in which Hohol lived, reproduces a special atmosphere and peculiarities of family life, with their hospitality, love of folk songs and folk culture, successfully emphasizing one of the main concepts of the museum which consists in creation of fundamental influence of Vasylivka on formation of worldview of the writer. Everything in the estate tells about the writer, brings a visitor closer to the sources of his immortal genius. The reality confirms that Mykola Hohol, as well as Ukraine itself which brought him up will remain forever!
