A distinctive feature of the aquani is a hole in the bottom with a wooden urine pipe attached to it. In the mountainous regions of Georgia, where armed clashes were not uncommon, babies were tied to such cradles so that in case of danger, the cradle could be quickly grabbed and carried to a safe place. This also allowed mothers busy with field work to leave their children for several hours without worrying about their safety.
