The first museum in Hadyach was established in 1920. It was named after Mikhail Dragomanov. The estate of the illustrious family contained a huge archive of several generations, including personal belongings, correspondence, and documents. The subsequent fate of both the state institution and the ancestral home was sad. The museum was closed in the 1930s. Only in 1951, a new Hadyatskyi local history museum was built in a three-story building on the central square of the city. The institution had eight exhibition departments, and its funds contained seven thousand exhibits. The main topics were: the emergence of the city, the participation of its residents in the liberation (under the leadership of B. Khmelnytsky) and the Northern Wars, and much attention was paid to the Second World War.A separate hall was dedicated to famous residents of Gad and guests of our city: Mykhailo Drahomanov, Panas Myrnyi, Lesya Ukrainka, Mykola Dukhov. Unfortunately, the anarchy of the 1990s put an end to the museum's life. The premises needed renovation, constant financial support, and a strong management hand. The change and partial absence of management led to the institution being practically looted, and some of the exhibits disappeared without a trace. Some of them were saved and moved to the new one-story literary museum of the Dragomanov family, located in a nearby building. Since 2012, the city can be proud of a separate two-story Hadiatskyi Historical and Local History Museum, built to meet the cultural needs of residents and guests of the former Hetman's capital. At the same time, a fragment of the Hadiatskyi Dungeon was opened. From the beginning, the institution had only 171 storage units. Now this number has crossed the five thousand mark. The museum has several exhibition rooms and a large exhibition hall with changing exhibitions. Museum address: Hadyach, Lesi Ukrainky St. 16 muzey.gadyach@ukr.net
