Necklace
The necklace consists of multicoloured glass-paste beads and bronze elements arranged into a decorative composition. The ornament includes spherical, cylindrical, and disc-shaped beads made of glass in various shades of blue, green, yellow, white, and dark colours. Larger decorative elements accentuate the central part of the necklace, giving the piece a balanced and visually expressive composition.
Similar ornaments were widespread in the ancient world and were worn as part of both everyday and festive attire. Glass paste, owing to its decorative qualities and relative affordability, served as a substitute for precious stones, making it possible to create brightly coloured and varied ornaments. The bronze elements served not only a decorative but also a structural function, reinforcing individual parts of the necklace.
Provenance: The object was donated to the museum by K. M. Skarzhynska in 1906. It originates from burials of the Hellenistic period in the vicinity of the Yelysavetyne hillfort. Excavated in 1884.
